Philipp Gerber is a self-assured automotive salesman. He runs over a young boy riding a bike and drives away in an inattentive moment behind the wheel of his car. As a result of his guilt, he seeks to learn more about the accident’s victim and discovers that the youngster is gravely ill in a hospital. Philipp feels hesitant to tell his mother, Laura Reiser, the truth. After a carefree vacation with his fiancée Katja, he finds that the boy is no longer alive. Meanwhile, Laura is torn between grief and a thirst for vengeance. She can’t take it anymore and jumps off a bridge one evening, but Philipp saves her life.
