Newspaper baron Charles Foster Kane, one of America’s, if not the world’s, wealthiest and most influential men, dies. A newspaperman searches into his history in search of the significance of his last cryptic word: “Rosebud.” He finds signs of a child ripped apart to serve Mammon from his family. Grown into manhood, to indulge his idealism, Charles Foster Kane becomes a newspaperman. He marries the niece of the man who will become President of the United States and, although losing more and more of his soul, eventually gains more and more power. Kane’s wealth and influence, like the America he is a symbol for, does not bring him happiness, as he has lost his youthful idealism.
