The Danish historical drama is based on Bodil Steensen-Leth’s novel Prinsesse af blodet and is directed by Nikolaj Arcel. The movie features Alicia Vikander, Mads Mikkelsen, Mikel Folsgaard, Trine Dyrholm, David Dencik, Cyron Melville, Thomas W. Gabrielsson, Bent Meejding and Laura Bro.
Caroline Matilda of Great Britain marries the Christian VII of Denmark. After some time in marriage, she finds herself unhappy with him and starts an affair with the king’s doctor Johann Friedrich Struensee. The doctor had won the king’s faith by making him popular among the Danish citizens and advising him to pass reformist laws. Soon Carolina and Struensee’s affair is exposed and are separated by a brutal punishment by the king.
