Nick tells NPR’s Scott Simon the story’s only partly predicated on his own struggles. Charlie is a delicate 18- time-old who breaks out of a nonage drug cure clinic, still when he returns home to Los Angeles, he’s given an intervention through his parents and impelled to go to a mature recovery. There, he meets a beautiful but girl, Eva, and is impelled to war with drugs, fugitive love, and divided parents. The drug-addicted son (Nick Robinson) of a California meat presser (Cary Elwes) finds love with a fellow case (Morgan Saylor) in recovery.
