Without notice or clarification, a slew of enigmatic alien “doors” appear in every corner of the globe. Although many of those who come into contact with these sentient visitors feel compelled to engage with them – never to be seen again – others remain behind to face the challenge of their ultimate agenda against mankind. The government enlists volunteers to brave the journey to reach the doors in order to learn more about the cause or meaning of these celestial mysteries in a rush to figure out why they’ve arrived. Even these courageous volunteers, though, are unprepared for what awaits them beyond the threshold. A ragtag band of high school students discovers a door for the first time, volunteers investigate the alternate universe beyond the threshold, and a lonesome hermit accomplishes the seemingly impossible: communicating with a door.
