Bryan Stevenson goes to Alabama after graduating from Harvard to protect those who have been wrongfully imprisoned or who have been denied fair representation. Walter McMillian, who was sentenced to death in 1987 for the murder of an 18-year-old girl despite testimony proving his innocence, was one of his first cases. In the years that follow, Stevenson battles bigotry, as well as legal and political manoeuvrings, to save McMillian’s life.
