This movie is about four March sisters, Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth, each determined to live their life on their own terms. Their father is serving in the civil war. Meg is married to a schoolteacher. Jo is a struggling author in a male-dominated New York city. Amy stays with her aunt in Paris learning painting. Amy has an opportunity to meet Theodore “Laurie” Laurence, a childhood crush suggested to Jo but eventually refused. Sister Beth, who was very shy, develops a devastating disease. Because of this the family back together.
