Jacob Yi, the ambitious paterfamilias, relocates his Korean-American family, including his skeptical wife, Monica, and their twins, David and Anne, from California to 1980s rural Arkansas, yearning to own a small land. New beginnings, on the other hand, are often difficult, and determining what is best for the family, let alone starting a 50-acre farm to produce and sell Korean fruits and vegetables, is easier said than done. Despite sincere assurances, cultural unease, fleeting expectations, and the ever-present danger of financial ruin, Jacob is persuaded that they have discovered their own slice of Eden in Arkansas’ rich, dark soil. Can the Yi family find out their place in the world with the help of grandma Soon-modest ja’s yet tenacious minari?
