Edward Norton wrote, produced, and directed Motherless Brooklyn, a 2019 American neo-noir crime film based on Jonathan Lethem’s 1999 novel of the same name. “Motherless Brooklyn” is set in 1950s New York and follows Lionel Essrog (Norton), a depressed private detective with Tourette’s Syndrome, as he attempts to solve his friend’s murder. Lionel unravels closely guarded secrets that keep the fate of the entire city in the balance, armed only with a few clues and the powerful engine of his obsessive mind.
