. It is the story of Florence and Edward, younger college graduates getting married in 1962. She is a proficient and ambitious classical musician from a well-to-do household and he is a clever younger man from humbler origins. Both have fantastic stages and, in consequence, no small opinion of themselves. They go as virgins to the marriage mattress in a way that was as soon as rather ordinary then and all on the other hand now not viable now. The inserting is a horribly common seaside inn on Chesil Beach in Dorset, whose wild and windblown expanse is in grim difference to their very very personal corseted timidity and ignorance. Its loneliness is, however, exquisite enough, and Cooke and cinematographer Sean Bobbitt contrive a 2nd in which they appear to be marooned on that beach as if washed up from some disaster
