The gawky sixteen-year-old high school boy, Ian Lightfoot, is about to discover in the quiet town of New Mushroomton, populated by magical beings, that magic is still alive when he receives a mysterious wooden staff from his long-dead father as a present for his birthday. Ian and his brother, Barley, will finally bring their dad back to life and spend a whole day together, but the Lightfoot brothers will have to embark on a dangerous journey behind their mother’s back after a failed attempt to harness the strength of the mysterious artifact. Still, time is running out and this is easier said than done in a world that has forgotten how to use magic. Is Ian going to find his calling, to make his dream come true?
