Ben (Kevin Hart) wishes to marry his beautiful girlfriend Angela, but he must first obtain the permission of her tough-as-nails brother James (Ice Cube), a senior investigator in the Atlanta Police Department, before proposing. When Ben, an ambitious police officer, is accepted into the academy, he summons the confidence to approach James for his blessing. James invites Ben on a ride-along into the hardest parts of town, still doubtful that Ben has what it takes to provide for his adored baby sister. James’ attempts to scare the young trainee go off without a hitch at first.
