We meet Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont, who rose to stardom during the silent-film era of Hollywood, in this film set during the rise of the “talkies.” The two make a perfect on-screen couple because they are both sexy, charming, and powerful. When viewers learn that Lina has an excruciatingly shrill voice, the advent of talking pictures poses a challenge to the dominant couple. Enter Kathy Selden, a young studio singer who lacks the stardom of Ms. Lamont but possesses the stunning voice Lina so badly needs. Will Don and Lina save their careers by seeking a solution to Lina’s laughably irritating voice?
