When two thugs confuse “the dude” Lebowski for a millionaire Lebowski, they urinate on his rug to compel him to pay a debt he has no knowledge of. He takes a one-time job with a high pay-off while trying to recover money for the destroyed rug from his rich counterpart. He enlists the aid of Walter, a gun-toting Jewish convert with anger problems, who he met at the bowling alley. Deception leads to further deception. Deception leads to more trouble, and it soon appears that everyone wants something from The Dude, from porn empire tycoons to nihilists.
