Goreng awakens in a section of The Hole, a location where food is delivered through The Platform. One cell per floor in a vertical jail. There are two people per cell. There is only one food platform and feeding takes two minutes a day. The Hole is a never-ending nightmare. People below get less as people above become greedy and eat whatever they want. Goreng discovers from his cellmates that the people below will succumb to madness and sanity loss, culminating in bloody cannibalism, so he devises a strategy for The Hole’s inhabitants.
