Margate Tate a talented and established book editor is to be deported from her native state Canada. To escape the deportation she makes a false claim for being engaged to Andrew Paxton who was her assistant and is soon to get married to him. Andrew agrees to play his fiancee but imposes a few conditions on her. While they are on it an immigration official is keeping a close eye on the fake couple.
