As winter caretaker of the remote, ancient, huge and beautiful Overlook Hotel, Jack Torrance is taking a work interview as a novelist. Jack takes his wife, Wendy, and his son, Danny, with him. Danny, it happens, has a mystical force known as’ The Shining.’ On their first day arriving at the Overlook, Danny encounters Hallorann, the hotel chef, who warns him about the hotel and the sinister Room 237Danny has visions as the days pass, as Jack continues to drive into insanity, becoming more and more violent, at the point that Danny and Wendy are convinced that Jack may try to do something wrong.
