The action-war film is directed by Richie Smyth and features Jamie Dornan, Mark Strong, Mikael Persbrandt, Jason O’Mara, Danny Sapani, Michael McElhatton, and Guillaume Canet. The movie is based on Declan Power’s book – ‘The Siege of Jadotville: The Irish Army’s Forgotten Battle’.
The movie is about the Irish unit’s role in the UN peacekeeping mission in Congo in September 1961. The movie starts with the execution of Congolese Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba and the resulting civil war. The civil war that almost came on the verge of starting the third world war was successfully managed by the Irish unit of the UN’s peacekeeping force.
