In 1930s Shanghai, former diplomat, blind Todd Jackson visits the city’s nightclubs and gambling houses. He gets infatuated with Sofia, who used to be a wealthy countess but is now supporting herself by dancing and prostitution. Jackson takes all his earnings from the horse to open a nightclub and hires Sofia as its hostess.
