In upstate New York during the 1850s, Abigail starts another year on the provincial ranch where she resides with her better half Dyer. As Abigail thinks about the year to get through her diary sections, we experience the checked difference between her purposeful, unemotional way and her disentangling complex feelings. Spring shows up and Abigail meets Tallie, a genuinely honest and arrestingly lovely novice leasing an adjoining ranch with her better half, Finney. The two strike up a conditional relationship, making up for a shortcoming in their lives which neither knew existed.
