“Climber’s High” is a 2008 Japanese drama film Directed by Masato Harada. The movie is based on a novel of the same name written by Ryū Murakami.
The story centers around two mountain climbers, one experienced and one novice, who embark on a dangerous expedition to climb Mount Everest. The experienced climber, Goro (played by Shun Oguri), is haunted by a traumatic incident from a previous expedition in which his girlfriend tragically lost her life. The novice climber, Yutaka (played by Masato Sakai), is a documentary filmmaker seeking to capture the challenges and triumphs of the journey.
As the climbers ascend the treacherous mountain, they face a series of life-threatening obstacles, including harsh weather conditions, physical exhaustion, and the ever-present risk of avalanches. The film explores the mental and emotional toll of extreme mountaineering, as well as the complex dynamics between the two protagonists and their motivations for conquering the world’s highest peak.
