“Fly Me to the Saitama” (Japanese: “翔んで埼玉” – Tonde Saitama) is a 2019 Japanese comedy film Directed by Hideki Takeuchi. The movie is based on the manga of the same name written by Mineo Maya.
The story is set in a satirical version of modern Japan, where the people of Saitama Prefecture are discriminated against by residents of Tokyo due to historical stereotypes. The film follows Momomi Dannoura (played by Fumi Nikaido), the daughter of the governor of Tokyo who falls in love with Rei Asami (played by Gackt), a Saitama native. Their romance leads to a clash between the two regions, highlighting the absurdity of the perceived rivalry.
