“Oldboy” is a 2003 South Korean neo-noir psychological thriller film Directed by Park Chan-wook. The movie is based on the Japanese manga of the same name written by Garon Tsuchiya and illustrated by Nobuaki Minegishi.
The story follows Oh Dae-su, a man who is inexplicably kidnapped and imprisoned in a small, windowless room for fifteen years without any explanation. During his captivity, Dae-su learns that his wife has been murdered, and he becomes consumed with the desire for revenge. One day, Dae-su is suddenly released, and he embarks on a quest to uncover the identity of his captor and the reasons behind his abduction. He receives cryptic clues that lead him to a young woman named Mi-do, who becomes his ally in his investigation. As Dae-su delves deeper into the mystery, the film takes dark and unpredictable turns, revealing a web of deception, betrayal, and revenge. The story explores themes of obsession, guilt, and the consequences of one’s actions.
