“Roaring Currents” (Korean: “명량”) is a 2014 South Korean historical action film directed by Kim Han-min. The movie is known for its epic portrayal of the Battle of Myeongnyang, a historic naval battle that took place during the Japanese invasions of Korea in the late 16th century.
The story revolves around Admiral Yi Sun-shin (played by Choi Min-sik), a revered Korean naval commander, and his efforts to defend his country against the invading Japanese forces. With a small fleet of ships, Admiral Yi strategically uses the treacherous Myeongnyang Strait to his advantage, employing innovative tactics to defeat the much larger Japanese fleet.
