After a departure from the show’s original tone in seasons 3-5, Roanoke returned to what the exhibit does best, focusing less on an over-the-top costume and set format and greater on being legitimately frightening through following dark issues and a haunting storyline. Roanoke will pay homage to The Blair Witch Project, with half of the season acting as a fake TV exhibit about a haunted residence in North Carolina and the different 1/2 about the actors who play the pretend characters traveling the house later for a reality show. The show affords dark commentary on the media’s longing for ratings and commercialization.
