Season four follows Sam (Keir Gilchrist) as he decides to take a semester off in hopes of making a trip to Antarctica to find out about penguins up shut and personal. Elsa (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and Doug (Michael Rapaport) are moving forward in making amends to repair their marriage after Elsa’s affair. Rashid turns inward and focuses on the non-public increase of the characters as a substitute for social interactions and relationships — even though there are lots of break-ups, lovable couple moments, and arguments to gas the drama.
Sam struggles to figure out what his next step in lifestyle will be, a feeling many college students can relate to. After a heartwarming moment of Sam searching into his adopted penguin’s eyes at the neighborhood aquarium, he decides he wishes to go to Antarctica. He does everything in his electricity after that second to attain his aim in spite of a lack of support from educational advisers and his girlfriend, Paige Hardaway.
