“The Great Crumble” wreaked havoc on the globe ten years ago, resulting in the inexplicable emergence of hybrids, kids born half-human, half-animal. After a decade of living safely in his distant woodland habitat, Gus, a protected hybrid deer-boy, meets a traveling solitary named Jepperd. They set off on an extraordinary trip across what’s left of America in search of answers about Gus’ origins, Jepperd’s past, and what it means to be at home. However, their journey is full of unexpected allies and foes, and Gus rapidly discovers that the lush, dangerous world outside the forest is far more complex than he ever anticipated.
