“Concrete Utopia,” directed by Um Tae-hwa, portrays a world devastated by an extensive earthquake. The lone standing structure amidst the ruins of Seoul is the Hwang Gung Apartments. Stranded and isolated, the residents are confronted by an influx of outsiders seeking shelter from the piercing cold outside. However, as their sanctuary becomes overcrowded, the original occupants sense a danger to their survival. Faced with this peril, the residents are compelled to undertake a drastic measure to protect their existence, delving into themes of community, survival instincts, and the ethical quandaries arising in times of crisis. The film explores the complexities of humanity when pushed to its limits within the confines of an apartment building functioning as both refuge and battleground.
