The story is set in the 26th century, 300 years after a social breakdown triggered by a major war. It’s a technical dark age in that society, after a pinnacle of success far beyond where we are now. Cyborg technology has become a way of life for many people. As a staff, people are often augmented, so becoming a cyborg is not uncommon. The protagonist is a cyborg. She has a normal human brain and appears to be about fourteen years old. Her body is entirely mechanical, and she has lost her memory. A cyber-surgeon, who becomes her surrogate father, finds her in rubble and reconstructs her.
