A simple-minded but kind-hearted Alabama boy grows up with a beautiful girl named Jenny as his best friend. He succeeds in life by a combination of chance and fate and therefore affects and is present at some of the most important events in the second half of the 20th century. He is told by other characters in his life what life is like and whether it’s all random or destined to happen, but towards the end, he comes to his own conclusion.
