A samurai, Hanshiro Tsugumo, arrives with an odd request at the Iyi Clan building. He wishes to commit harakiri, a ritual suicide, in the courtyard of the building, because of his circumstances. It turns out that this is not such an unprecedented request: the clan had previously had such requests, but the intentions of the requestor were not always honorable. The Elder of the Clan tells Tsugumo the tale of the last samurai to make the request and how it ended. Will he go through with it anyway?
