Satsuki, 10, and her 4-year-old sister Mei move to a country house with their father to be closer to their mother, who is in the hospital. Satsuki and Mei discover that Totoros, mythical beings, live in the nearby forest (pronounced toe-toe-to). They quickly become friends with the Totoros and embark on a series of magical adventures with them.
