Troubled US Marshal Teddy Daniels and his new wife, Chuck Aule, fly to Ashecliffe Hospital, Shutter Island’s impregnable asylum for the criminally insane, to investigate the inexplicable disappearance of a deranged child-murderer. Soon, indescribable complexities of medical malpractice appear inside the gloomy purgatory’s thick stone walls, implying that the institution’s enigmatic senior psychiatrists may be concealing anything. Then, in the gloomy off-shore jail, a raging storm catches patients and investigators alike, causing Teddy’s debilitating migraines and gruesome hallucinations from the past.
