The Comic Shop directed by Jonathan L. Bowen, is an endearing indie dramedy set in a fading Las Vegas strip mall. The film follows Mike D Angelo a former illustrator who abandoned his creative dreams to open his own business Mike’s World Comic . Struggling to keep the store afloat in the wake of the pandemic Mike falls into a slump and is forced to lay off his best friend and sole employee Alex. With a looming rent increase and a flashy new competitor opening across the street Mike contemplates closing his doors for good. However his outlook changes when an earnest teenager named Brandon walks into the shop seeking a mentor to help him become a comic book artist. In exchange for Mike’s artistic guidance, Brandon offers to build a website to help modernize the struggling store. As the trio bands together to save the beloved local business from a smarmy real-estate developer they rediscover their lost passions, finding unexpected community and renewed purpose among the longboxes.
