“Air Doll” is a 2009 Japanese fantasy drama film Written and Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda. The movie is based on the manga “The Pneumatic Figure of a Girl” by Yoshiie Goda.
The story centers around an inflatable sex doll named Nozomi (played by Bae Doona) who magically comes to life. Nozomi, or “Air Doll,” begins to explore the world around her, experiencing life and human emotions for the first time. She takes on a job at a video store and interacts with various people in her neighborhood.
As Air Doll interacts with different individuals, the film explores themes of loneliness, connection, and the human experience. She forms a particularly close bond with her co-worker Junichi (played by Arata Iura), and their relationship becomes a central focus of the story.
