“Bright Future” is a 2003 Japanese drama film Directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. The movie tells the story of two friends, Yuji Nimura and Mamoru Arita, whose lives take unexpected turns after a tragic incident.
The film begins with Yuji, a quiet and introverted young man who works at a factory. He befriends his coworker, Mamoru, an eccentric and talkative man with a fascination for jellyfish. Mamoru is responsible for taking care of a pet jellyfish named “Bright Future.”
When Mamoru commits a shocking act of violence, he is arrested and sentenced to death. Left behind is the jellyfish, Bright Future, which becomes a symbol of the unfulfilled potential and the uncertain future faced by both friends.
After Mamoru’s arrest, Yuji takes responsibility for the jellyfish, attempting to care for it as a way to honor his friendship with Mamoru and the life he once had. However, as Yuji struggles with the burden of the past, he finds himself drawn to a life of crime, seeking solace in an underground world.
