“Drive My Car” (Japanese: “ドライブ・マイ・カー”) is a 2021 Japanese drama film Directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi. The movie is based on the short story of the same name by Haruki Murakami.
The story follows Yusuke Kafuku (played by Hidetoshi Nishijima), a theater director who is grieving the loss of his wife. In an attempt to heal and move forward, he takes a job as a director for a production of Anton Chekhov’s play “Uncle Vanya.” As part of the job, he hires a young woman named Misaki (played by Toko Miura) to be his driver. As they spend time together during their drives, the two begin to open up about their pasts, forming an unexpected and profound connection.
