“Love and Honor” is a 2006 Japanese romantic drama film Directed by Yoji Yamada. The movie, also known as “Bushi no Ichibun” (literally “Warrior’s Honor”), is set during the Edo period of Japan and follows the story of a young samurai, Shinnojo Mimura (played by Takuya Kimura).
Shinnojo is a skilled and dedicated samurai who serves as a food taster for his lord. However, one day, he is poisoned while testing the lord’s food, and the poisoning results in him losing his eyesight. Devastated by his loss of sight, Shinnojo becomes disillusioned with his role as a samurai and withdraws from society.
His loyal wife, Kayo (played by Rei Dan), stands by his side and supports him through his hardship. But as Shinnojo’s life takes a downward turn, Kayo decides to make a heartbreaking sacrifice to help her husband regain his honor and self-respect.
