“3-Iron” is a 2004 South Korean romantic drama film Written and Directed by Kim Ki-duk. The movie is also known as “Bin-jip,” which translates to “Empty Houses” in Korean.
The film follows the unusual and enigmatic relationship between a young drifter, Tae-suk (played by Jae Hee), and Sun-hwa (played by Lee Seung-yeon), a woman trapped in an abusive marriage. Tae-suk roams the city, breaking into empty houses and living in them temporarily while the owners are away. He leaves no trace of his presence, often fixing broken household items as a gesture of gratitude for being able to stay in these empty homes.
One day, Tae-suk mistakenly enters a house that is not empty. He discovers Sun-hwa, who is being mistreated by her wealthy and violent husband. Instead of being reported to the police, Sun-hwa remains silent about Tae-suk’s presence, and they start to form a unique bond. They communicate without speaking, and their connection grows stronger as they share intimate moments together.
