Season three also marked a new opening for Black Mirror as it advanced from a series of cynical cautionary memories to a mixed bag of memories of a number of ideas and tones, each one greater thought-provoking than the last. The title of the haunting “Nosedive” refers to the descent of Bryce Dallas Howard’s popularity in a world simply run on a 5-star rating scale. “Playtest” is a straight-up horror film with the thinking of how real VR could get with an underlying commentary on the rate of actual reality. “Shut Up and Dance” is a livid roller coaster trip from the factor of view of a hacking victim whose moral compass is put into question via the shocking conclusion, but the deeper message of morality can be determined in the feature-length detective thriller “Hated in the Nation,” which locations the trendy public’s humanity in perspective.
