Original Spartacus Andy Whitfield died in 2011 from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and Australian actor Liam McIntyre stepped into his sandals to take up hands as commander of the newly freed slaves. In the opener, Spartacus starts to apprehend the significance and overwhelming obligations of his task, while Gaius Claudius Glaber (Craig Parker), who was once responsible for Spartacus’ enslavement, arrives in Capua, compounding the Thracian’s problems.
To extend the measurement of his rebellion force, Spartacus frees and then recruits warring parties who were held as slaves throughout foreign wars. And at an equal time, Glaber welcomes powerful new recruits to his army. Later, grant shortages and a most useful Roman pressure threaten to halt the rise up as Spartacus tries to rally his troops in the face of an ultimate onslaught from Glaber’s battle legions.
