“The Long Excuse” (Japanese: “永い言い訳” – Nagai Iiwake) is a 2016 Japanese drama film Directed by Miwa Nishikawa. The movie delves into themes of grief, forgiveness, and personal growth.
The story follows Sachio Kinugasa (played by Masahiro Motoki), a successful writer who leads a self-absorbed and emotionally distant life. When his wife Natsuko (played by Eri Fukatsu) dies in a bus accident, Sachio is forced to confront his own shortcomings and reexamine his relationships with those around him. As a way of coping, he offers to help Natsuko’s best friend Yuki (played by Pistol Takehara) and her two children.
