The Japanese anime psychological drama film is co-written and directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi and is based on the Joan G. Robinson novel by the same name. The movie features the voices of Sara Takatsuki, Kasumi Arimura, Ryoko Moriyama, Han Sugisaki, Hitomi Kuroki, Nanako Matsushima, Susumu Terajima and Toshie Negish.
Anna Sasaki is a twelve year old girl with low self-esteem. She suffers an asthma attack and is sent to a distant town for recovery. She meets a blonde-haired girl Mrnie there and soon they both become close friends.
