A boy who grew up in a native Sicilian village, after receiving news of the death of an old friend, returns home as a famous director. Told in a flashback, Salvatore recalls his childhood and his friendship with Alfredo, a Cinema Paradiso projectionist.Salvatore fell in love with filmmaking under Alfredo’s fatherly guidance, spending a lot of hours reviewing films with the pair and Alfredo painstakingly teaching Salvatore the skills that became a stepping stone into the world of filmmaking for the young boy. The film introduces the viewer to the developments in cinema and the dying industry of conventional film production, editing and screening. It also discusses the dream of a young boy who leaves his little town to foray into the outside world.
