SUMMER OF SOUL is part music film, a part verifiable record made around an epic occasion that observed Black history, culture, and design. Throughout about a month and a half in the late spring of 1969, only one hundred miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was shot in Mount Morris Park. The recording was never seen and generally forgotten up to this point. SUMMER OF SOUL focuses light on the significance of history to our otherworldly prosperity and stands as a demonstration of the recuperating force of music during seasons of turmoil, both past, and present. The element incorporates at no other time seen show exhibitions by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly, and the Family Stone, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. Lord, The Fifth Dimension, and that’s only the tip of the iceberg.
