This film deals with the largest Allied escape attempt from a German P.O.W. camp, based on a true story. The first part of the film focuses on the camp’s escape attempts and the process of secretly digging an escape tunnel.The second half deals with the German Gestapo’s huge attempt to track down over seventy escaping prisoners, who are at this stage trying to make their way to England and various neutral countries in the Third Reich.
