“Memories of Murder” is a 2003 South Korean crime-drama film Directed by Bong Joon-ho. The movie is based on the real-life Hwaseong serial murders that occurred in the 1980s and 1990s in South Korea.
The film revolves around the investigation of a series of brutal and unsolved murders that have taken place in a rural town. Two local detectives, Detective Park Doo-man and Detective Cho Yong-koo, are assigned to the case but struggle to make progress due to their limited resources and outdated investigative techniques. As the case remains unsolved, a seasoned detective from Seoul, Detective Seo Tae-yoon, joins the investigation. With a different approach and more advanced methods, Detective Seo clashes with the local detectives while trying to catch the elusive killer.
