“Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War” is a 2004 South Korean war film Directed by Kang Je-gyu. The movie is also known simply as “Taegukgi” or “Brotherhood.”
The story is set during the Korean War (1950-1953) and revolves around two brothers, Jin-tae (played by Jang Dong-gun) and Jin-seok (played by Won Bin). They come from a poor family in Seoul and have a close and loving relationship.
When the war breaks out, the brothers are forcibly conscripted into the South Korean army. Jin-tae, the elder brother, makes a desperate and sacrificial decision to keep his younger brother out of harm’s way. He vows to do whatever it takes to ensure Jin-seok’s safety and get him discharged from the army.
As the war intensifies, the two brothers find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. Jin-tae becomes a fierce and decorated soldier, while Jin-seok faces the harsh realities of war as a conscripted soldier on the front lines.
