The Japanese animated movie is directed by Takahiro Omori. The movie features the voices of Ayane Sakura, Koki Uchiyama, Shinpachi Tsuji, Izumi Sawada, Hayato Taya, Kanehira Yamamoto, Kanehira Yamamoto, Hiroki Gotō, Asaami Imai, Mami Uchida, and Kumiko Tashiro.
Hotaru was rescued by a firefly when she was a child. The two become very good friends and their friendship continues even when Hotaru grows old. But the life of the firefly is dependent on human beings, as he still dies instantly if a human being touches it.
