In October 1989, the Wall had effectively cut off the West Berlin borough of Kreuzberg from the rest of the city for the previous 28 years. A sluggish subculture of students, artists, bohemians, and barflies had evolved among the collapsing structures. Barkeeper Frank, affectionately known as ‘Herr Lehmann’ by friends and customers, is a part of that microcosm. He sits out drinking, has no interest in anything other than SO 36, and is having an affair with cook Katrin. His routine is gradually disrupted when his parents pay him a visit, things go wrong with Katrin, and his best friend Karl begins to act strangely. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Wall, political unrest is on the rise.
